               Which Indian won the Nobel Prize When and why? 


Today you are being told about the Indians who have won this award for their outstanding deeds and have made the whole country proud. 
 
                                             

Word poet Guru Dev Ravinder Nath Tagore :    Kolkata born world renowned writer and educationist Ravinder Nath Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1913 for his work 'Gitanjali'. He was the first Indian to receive this honor. As well as being a poet, he was also a novelist, storyteller, playwright, artist, journalist, teacher and philosopher. The poet Ravinder founded the shanti Niketan in 1901, now know as the 'Word Indian University'. It is a unique monument to the great educational institution, Rabindranath Tagore. The national anthem of India 'Jana Gana Mann' was composed by Ravinder Nath Tagore. 

Dr. Chandra Sekhar Venkat Raman :   Physicist Dr. Venkat was born in Thiruvananthapuram, near Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu. He was educated at PCDC college, Madras. In 1930, to study the spread of light, Dr. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. His discovery was dubbed the 'Raman Effect'. Raman's talent and dedication to science was obvious. He come first in the MSC examination at Chennai University. He was awarded the 'Bharat Ratna', the highest honor of the Government of India, in 1947. Dr. Raman establishes the 'Raman Research Institute' in Bangalore. The great scientist died in 1970 at the age of 82. 

Mother Teresa :   Mother Teresa was born in Yugoslavia to an Albanian Couple. Her first name was 'Agnes'. She came to Calcutta as a Christian missionary in India at the age of 18. She worked as an educator at the Palareto Union for two years, but seeing the plight of the orphans melted away and began to serve them. Her name has now been changed to Teresa instead of Agnes, and this has become another from of service to the poor. Mother Teresa founded an organization called 'Missionaries of Charity', whose work grew rapidly. In India she had service centers, and in other countries about 600 service centers were set up by Mother Teresa. She become a citizen of India in 1948. It is not right to stamp Mother Teresa services on any caste or creed. Mother Teresa spent her entire life as a great sadhvi in two simple dhoti on the blue edge. Impressed by Mother Teresa selfless service, she received awards and honors from many organizations around the world. In 1979 he was awarded the 'Nobel Peace Prize'. In 1980, Mother Teresa was awarded the 'Bharat Ratna' by the Government of India. Mother Teresa, the great sadhvi, passed away in 1997. 

Economist Dr. Amartya Sen :  Economist Dr. Amartya Sen was born in shanti Niketan, Kolkata. It was Ravinder Babu who named him Amartya Sen. Amartya Sen early education was at shanti Niketan. In 1953, he graduated from Calcutta University. He then received his MA and PHD in Economics from Trinity college, Cambridge, England. After completing his education in England, he came to India and worked for a few days at the school of Economics, Jawadpur university, Delhi. After 1971, he was a professor at the London school of Economics in England and then worked at various universities in the united states. Special books written by him - ' Theory of Social Choice', Definition of Welfare and Poverty' and Study Feminine'. Based on these books, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1998. 

Kailash Satyarthi :  Another Indian has been added to the list of 2014 Nobel Prize winners - Kailash Satyarthi. Born In Madhya Pradesh, Kailash was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize along with Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan. He received this awarded for improving the lives of millions of children. More than one lakh children have been liberated as a result of the 'save the children movement'. Which was started by Kailash Satyarthi.
